ORF premiere: “Doc 1: Unhealthy Myth, Part 2” with Hanno Settele at 8:15 p.m

We have always been surrounded by a multitude of beliefs that influence our daily lives. Where they come from is often unknown, and behind many of these myths there is often at most a grain of truth. Anything beyond this can sometimes even be dangerous to your health. Hanno Settele sets out to search for the truth or at least what corresponds to today’s state of knowledge. Together with award-winning chef Konstantin Filippou and holistic doctor Katja Schlemitz, Hanno Settele cooks at its finest and, at the same time, answers questions with the experts such as: Is glutamate harmful? And is Teflon really as toxic as is often claimed? Urologist Erik Randall-Huber finally clarifies the long-standing debate about the optimal amount to drink. Do we have to drink six glasses of water every day? And how much vacation do we need? The neurobiologist Bernd Hufnagl reveals it, and the topic of aging is also examined. Is there such a thing as senile bed-rushing and does learning really end at some point? It has been the focus of criticism for decades: the microwave. Environmental analyst Peter Tappler and epidemiologist Michael Kundi measure the radiation in the immediate vicinity of the microwave and provide information about whether we should ban the devices from the kitchen. In addition, common parenting and sports myths are eliminated. Preventive medicine specialist Doris Eller-Berndl also provides answers to medical questions. Do we really have to always wear sunscreen? And what’s with the white spots on your fingernails?

ORF premiere: “In Search of the Good Fat” at 9:05 p.m

Fat is an arch-enemy for most people today. Without this energy reserve, humans would never have been able to develop to this extent. Scientists are now showing how important fatty tissue actually is in the human body, how it communicates with the brain and even influences our behavior. Fat is vital and yet is constantly demonized. New research helps to better understand its function and control fat production.

“Doc 1: Unhealthy Myth” with Hanno Settele at 10 p.m

Hanno Settele and nutritionist Jürgen König examine the good old Viennese breakfast in contrast to brown bread, bean sprouts and cucumbers. They also take a close look at vegan and vegetarian diets and investigate, among other things, whether organic meat is healthier, what makes a good dessert, whether cheese closes the stomach and what the digestive schnapps really does. Psychologist Barbara Buchegger talks about the many myths surrounding the use of social media and computer games. Sports scientists Robert Csapo and Christoph Triska explain common running and fitness myths. Hanno Settele clarifies further myths with, among others, dermatologist Julia Valencak, intelligence researcher Jakob Pietschnig from the University of Vienna, Gabriele Fischer, psychiatrist and head of the drug clinic at the Vienna General Hospital, and with the Vienna emergency services.
