New episode: “Travel Time – Austria” on the road in Rust

Sasa Schwarzjirg on a discovery tour in northern Burgenland

Vienna (OTS) Sasa Schwarzjirg visits Rust in Burgenland in the new edition of “Reisezeit – Österreich” on Whit Monday, May 20, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2.

The starting point is the listed old town of Rust, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its impressive Baroque and Renaissance facades. Tour guide Tina Lackner shows Sasa the small, enchanted streets. The stork nests on the chimneys of the houses are also impressive. Rust tries to be as attractive as possible for the storks and so the members of the Rust Stork Association actively help with nest building. Igor Smrtnik is the chairman of the association and has many stories to tell about the nature conservation project.

A trip by boat on Lake Neusiedl is a must on a trip to Burgenland, as is a visit to the impressive venue of the St. Margarethen quarry. Director Daniel Serafin reports on the possibilities and difficulties of staging operas on such a large open-air stage.

Sasa is allowed to help out in a boutique hotel in Rust. The furniture in the hotel is uniquely artfully crafted by hand. Sasa gets to design her own chair. Owner and artist Tina Mooslechner is available to help and advise.

The area around Rust is best known for its wines. During the final visit to the oldest winery in Donnerskirchen, Michael Bayer invites you to a tasting.
