“Brennpunkt Austria” with an interpersonal experiment on the topic “Choice of weapons – female soldier meets pacifist”

Vienna (OTS) – In the report series “Brennpunkt Österreich” concepts of life and worldviews come together that seem to be incompatible. The new episode “Choice of Weapons – Female Soldier Meets Pacifist” on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 1 takes you into the lives of two people who couldn’t be more different. Klaus Heidegger is a committed peace activist from Tyrol and Lisa Rammel is a committed militia soldier from Lower Austria. It’s about existential questions like: Should weapons continue to be sent to Ukraine to stop Putin? Are our national security threatened? Do we really have to fear that Austria will be attacked by war? Is our democracy threatened and, in extreme cases, do we have to defend it with weapons?

Klaus Heidegger, who grew up in the mountain landscapes of Tyrol, has been passionately committed to peace since the 1980s and is actively involved in various organizations. This is how he lives his belief in non-violent solutions. Lisa Rammel, on the other hand, has found her way into the world of the armed forces. After a short but intense time as a professional soldier, she decided to continue her service in the militia in order to return to civilian life. “Weapons and military strength are necessary in order to remain defensive,” Lisa Rammel is convinced. “We can only create and maintain peace without weapons,” says Klaus Heidegger. And although they appear to be on opposite sides of the spectrum, they share a deep longing for a world without conflict and violence. The report follows the two protagonists on their journey through different environments, from the picturesque mountain landscapes of Tyrol, churches and NGO quarters for social assistance to the sober barracks of Amstetten. In Lisa’s world, Klaus is confronted with everything he rejects – military drills, weapons, combat and shooting exercises. Will he even put on a uniform or pick up a weapon? Do Klaus and Lisa still find something in common here? And are prayers enough to resolve conflicts? An interpersonal experiment with surprising emotional twists and a stimulating exchange of perspectives.
