Vienna (OTS) – Investments that increase the productivity of health professionals bring health, economic growth, jobs and productivity gains in other areas. Poor health, on the other hand, costs the global economy 15 percent of GDP, while creating fair jobs in care supports the fight against poverty and contributes to gender equality in the world of work worldwide. Prioritizing investments to enable nurses to perform their full range of practice improves the efficiency and effectiveness of health systems. Ensuring job satisfaction among nurses should be considered essential for sustainable and resilient healthcare systems. Investments in care create a cascade effect that culminates in building healthier societies and economic and social prosperity. Ultimately, investing in safe healthcare saves money.
Five central requirements can be derived from this:
1. Empowering caregivers
2. Invest in education and workforce development
3. Improvement of working conditions
4. Recognition and fair compensation
5. Promote the role of nurses in society
