FP-Bors: New Roma/Sinti camp in Tulln! Mayor overwhelmed

Wild camping is still prohibited – the camp must be evacuated

St. Pölten (OTS) “What was valid at the beginning of May and worked without any problems should also apply now,” said the liberal Tulln local councilor and LMP Andreas Bors, in view of the renewed occupation of the trade fair car park on the Tulln southern bypass by numerous caravans belonging to a Roma/Sinti group. “The camping ban still applies and must be adhered to,” said Bors, who called for the area to be cleared immediately.

Just last week, ÖVP city councilor Peter Höckner told fairy tales about friction-free communication and good cooperation with the Roma/Sinti. However, the recent illegal siege with around 35 caravans at the Tulln trade fair parking lot proves just the opposite, said Bors, who accused the Tulln ÖVP city leadership of failing across the board.

The mayor of Tulln, Peter Eisenschenk (ÖVP), cannot get the problems with the Roma/Sinti under control and is not even able to implement his own regulation, criticized Bors and referred to the ban on wild camping that has been in effect since January 1, 2024. With this decision by the state parliament, the municipalities would have the opportunity to ban camping outside of campsites in order to avoid negative effects on safety, health, protection of the local community, agriculture, tourism or the natural environment as well as the town and landscape said Bors.

“This ordinance was successfully executed at the beginning of May. There is nothing wrong with applying this regulation now,” said Bors, who accused the mayor of acting arbitrarily and thus creating legal uncertainty.
