“Heimat Fremde Heimat” about La dolce vita – the Austrian dessert culture and its roots

On May 12th at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Ajda Sticker will present a “Heimat Fremde Heimat” edition about the Austrian dessert culture and its roots on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2:

The variety of local desserts is almost inexhaustible and shaped by migration and globalization. Austrian cuisine has always been a fusion cuisine, strongly influenced by the lively intercultural exchange that occurred during the Austro-Hungarian period. “Vienna was a melting pot that not only attracted masses of migrant workers, but also the who’s who of the crown lands and also benefited enormously from the migration movement on a culinary level,” says the Munich gastrosophist and author Peter Peter. Syrian refugees in the “Taybat” confectionery shop in Vienna’s 16th district enrich the local range of sweet dishes with their centuries-old baking art. Čedomira Schlapper looked at new developments and trends, but also examined the origins of famous classic Austrian desserts, such as apple strudel.
