Project operator welcomes decision – “This brings us a big step closer to implementation”

This decision by the EIA authorities has brought us a big step closer to implementing the Kahlenberg cable car

Hannes Dejaco, Project Manager

Vienna (OTS) A groundbreaking decision was announced today in the ongoing official proceedings regarding the Kahlenberg cable car: The investigation carried out has shown that no environmental impact assessment needs to be carried out for the Kahlenberg cable car.

The EIA authority’s decision was preceded by an application for a declaration by the Ministry of Climate Protection as the highest cable car authority, which was submitted to the affected city department (MA 22) in June 2023.

Legal certainty through a declaratory decision

The project operator Hannes Dejaco, managing director of Genial Tourismus- und Projektentwicklung GmbH, was pleased with the decision: “It is good that the question of the EIA obligation has now finally been clarified, because this has created the necessary legal certainty for all further procedures.” says Dejaco.

Due to the small space requirement of the Kahlenberg cable car and the EIA legal requirements, it was assumed that there was no EIA requirement for this project. With the result of the investigation, all remaining uncertainties in this regard have now been finally resolved.

“Through this decision by the EIA authority, we have come a big step closer to implementing the Kahlenberg cable car”says Dejaco, who sees this process as confirmation “that the Kahlenberg cable car is a sustainable and environmentally friendly showcase project in the public interest.”
