Austria slipped from 29th place last year to 32nd place in the 2024 press freedom index by Reporters Without Borders (RSF). According to RSF Austria President Fritz Hausjell, this is the “worst result” so far for the Alpine republic. The score fell from 77.3 to 74.7 points, which puts Austria in the middle of the countries classified as “satisfactory”, behind Moldova and ahead of Mauritania. Only eight states are considered to have a “good” situation.
