Zierfuß/Taborsky ad teacher job ticket: SPÖ and neos finally give in

In March, the city government voted against the ÖVP’s application for a job ticket for teachers – after pressure, it came

Vienna (OTS) Initially, the Vienna city government did not want to give state teachers a free job ticket for public transport and only wanted to give this to municipal officials. A corresponding request from the Vienna People’s Party to set an active appreciation measure with the job ticket for state teachers was rejected by the SPÖ and neos in the local council. Education spokesperson, local councilor Harald Zierfuß says: “A few weeks ago, the SPÖ argued in the local council that they did not even feel responsible for the Vienna state teachers. A self-image that probably explains some of the problems in Vienna’s schools. We are pleased that the pressure from the staff representatives and the Vienna People’s Party is now having an effect. The unequal treatment of teachers will now be abolished.”

Human resources spokesman, local councilor Hannes Taborsky, adds: “It should make no difference where employees of the City of Vienna work. The teachers in Vienna do great things every day. You deserve the job ticket just like the rest of the Viennese employees. This active appreciation measure is long overdue.”

However, there are numerous other hurdles to overcome when working in compulsory schools in Vienna; a job ticket can only be a first step. “The city government made up of SPÖ and neos would do well to have serious discussions with the elected staff representatives in order to improve the situation of Viennese teachers in the long term. “Through the consistent representation work of Thomas Krebs and his team, important steps are being taken for Vienna’s schools,” conclude Zierfuß and Taborsky.
