4 stations from CopaBeach to Jedlesee Bridge – island boat has been upgraded to be environmentally friendly
Vienna (OTS) – Finally get a taste of the “sea air” on the New Danube again! After a winter break, island hopping goes into the next round with the city of Vienna’s ferry service. The Copa Cruise will be sailing on the New Danube again this year until mid-October. From the lively CopaBeach to the natural north of the Danube Island: with the environmentally friendly island boat, the city of Vienna is creating a seasonal transport connection on the water.
“The Copa Cruise is a unique service from the City of Vienna for all guests of the New Danube and the Danube Island. Not only does the deck of the ferry reliably create a pure holiday atmosphere, the trip also includes an incomparable island panorama of Vienna’s most popular leisure oasis,” says City Councilor Ulli Sima, who is responsible for mobility and Vienna’s waters, delighted at the start of the season.
Discover the diversity of the Danube Island
“Hop On, Hop Off”: Passengers can explore the diversity of the Danube Island by ferry at 4 stations. From the lively leisure hotspot CopaBeach it goes via the Floridsdorfer Brücke and Nordbrücke stations to the Jedleseer Brücke just before the border with Lower Austria. The ferry route is around 5 kilometers, and in total it takes around 45 minutes from the starting point to the final stop.
The district leaders of Donaustadt and Floridsdorf are also happy about the start of the season. “I am sure that the Copa Cruise will once again be a complete success in its third year and is in any case a varied expansion of the public transport network in the Danube city!” says Ernst Nevrivy. And his district manager colleague from Floridsdorf, Georg Papai, adds: “Copa Cruise is an ideal offer for everyone who wants to experience the Danube Island from the water. And it’s a good way to get back safely to the starting point if you overestimated yourself a little while hiking to the north of the island.”
Environmentally friendly island boat is powered by electric motor
The island boat Copa Cruise was upgraded to be environmentally friendly by the City of Vienna – Vienna Waters department. The catamaran is powered by an electric motor. Two thirds of the boat roof is equipped with photovoltaic panels. These supply up to a quarter of the electricity required. When not in operation, the island boat is charged at an e-charging station above the Sunken City.
“The Copa Cruise offers the unique opportunity to explore areas of the Danube Island that are a little away from the hustle and bustle. The Danube Island is a 21-kilometer-long leisure paradise – the ferry boat is therefore the ideal means of transport to get to the perfect swimming spot from the mainland in a comfortable way,” says Gerald Loew – Head of the Vienna Waters Department.
Traveling on the New Danube with a timetable
Island hopping made easy: The Copa Cruise is now in operation with a skipper and boatswain every Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well as on public holidays. The boat can accommodate up to 20 people. The ferry boat chugs away from CopaBeach near the Reichsbrücke from 10:30 a.m., the last trip towards Jedleseer Bridge starts at 7:00 p.m. The timetables are constantly adapted to the lighting conditions. Depending on the weather, the ferry service is expected to run until October 2024.
