Vienna (OTS) – The latest “Österreich Bild” from the Carinthian regional studio with the title “100 years of sea (h)nsucht in the Klagenfurt lido” is dedicated to one of the largest inland seaside resorts in Europe, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The documentary by Bernd Radler presents the lido and its visitors over time, both historically and over the seasons – can be seen for the first time on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 6:25 p.m. on ORF 2. Surrounded by the imposing Mountain ranges of the Hohe Tauern, people have lived here as mountain farmers from and with nature for centuries.
For 100 years, the Klagenfurt lido in the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee has been a true seaside resort, a microcosm that makes summer in the state capital not only bearable, but unforgettable for many.
“Where there was once only wild growth, a paradise has emerged,” as a book from 1930 says. In the early years, bathing culture was revolutionized here. The lido is now a place where thousands of people from different walks of life gather. The listed main house with its impressive colonnade and direct line of sight over the turquoise lake still inspires architects today.
The focus is on the people who love this pool or who keep their work going every day: from the first inspection in spring, through the rush on the hottest day of the year, to the last days of swimming in autumn, ice bathing in winter and the anticipation to the summer. The lifeguard, the saleswoman in the bakery, the volleyball youth, the water rescuers and the employee at the checkout – 100 years of sea (h)nsucht at the Klagenfurt lido has many faces.
The theme song produced especially for this documentary by the Carinthian group SINN under the direction of Stefan Skreinig is intended to express all of these emotions.
