“Theme”: Fight with the burglar – a victim reports

On April 15th at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Christoph Feurstein will present the following contributions in “Thema” on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2:

Fight with the burglar – one victim reports

“There was no rational thought, I just acted,” says Walter Praunegger, describing the moments when he caught a burglar in his house at night. Together with his partner and a subtenant, the 70-year-old entrepreneur from Weiz in Styria manages to hold on to the burglar until the police come and arrest the 23-year-old perpetrator. Walter Praunegger suffered lacerations and cuts in the fight, but also suffered psychological injuries. “I haven’t been able to sleep since then,” he says. Oliver Rubenthaler spoke to Walter Praunegger about the dramatic minutes and, together with Eva Kordesch, explored the question of how one can process such an event and protect oneself from it.

Poetry of ice – portrait of glacier researcher Andrea Fischer

Glaciologist Andrea Fischer is Scientist of the Year 2023. Her research subject will disappear in a few years. The Jamtalferner has shrunk as much from 2022 to 2023 as it did in 30 years. “As a scientist, I naturally find it very interesting to follow something that no one before us has ever been able to observe. I probably feel like a doctor who finds a particularly strange illness.” Andrea Poschmaier accompanied the former national ice climbing champion to the glacier for an interview for “Thema”. Fischer talks about permafrost, legendary villages and raves about the poetry of this ephemeral material.

Climate Grandmas in Switzerland

“A heartfelt wish has come true for me,” says Rosmarie Wydler-Wälti, co-president of the Climate Seniors. For eight years they have fought to recognize that climate change and the associated heat waves have a particularly severe impact on the health of older women. The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has now confirmed this. “We received a lot of support, but older men in particular criticized us. We should rather look after children or go to a nursing home,” says Pia Hollenstein from St. Gallen. Marion Flatz-Mäser visited two of the climate grandmas for “Theme”.

Roy Lichtenstein’s muse

“Don’t artists your age usually do nudes? If you do that, I have to be the model,” says Erica Wexler about her relationship with the painter and pop art star Roy Lichtenstein. She once had a passionate affair with him. The married artist was already in his late 60s at the time, the singer was 40 years younger. Lichtenstein’s 100th birthday is being celebrated in Vienna’s Albertina with 100 paintings, sculptures and works on paper. The distinctive style of his grid dots continues to be a crowd-pleaser. In 2017, one of his works was auctioned for $165 million. In the “Theme” interview with Alexander Rauscher, Erica Wexler remembers her time with one of the most influential and innovative artists of the 20th century.
