Viennese song festival opens in 2024

In addition to classic Viennese songs, many new arrangements of Viennese music for new target groups can also be heard.

Vienna (OTS) – “Already at the opening concert of the wean hean Festival in the Otto Wagner Areal we can hear how complex Viennese music is”, explains Daniela Fuchs, managing director of the Vienna Volksliedwerk, the organization of the Viennese song festival wean hean. “At the start we are presenting “OWA auffi!” As at the festival until mid-May, in addition to classical Viennese songs and dudlers, there are also jazz variations and world music. It is particularly important to us to get children and young people excited about Viennese songs. We offer our own formats for them”.

Viennese song festival presents a rich musical offering

Emphasized at the opening of the festival Veronica Kaup-Hasler, Executive City Councilor for Culture and Science in Vienna: “In Austria there is an incredibly rich musical offering – from classical and folk music to hits and Austropop to Viennese songs and hip hop. Music manages to trigger emotions in us directly and immediately. I am all the more pleased that the festival celebrates the Viennese song and builds bridges in the process: through a free festival start, the performance of a wide variety of locations in our city and the connection between Viennese tradition and current music trends. I am looking forward to the opening in the Otto Wagner Areal with great anticipation and to sonorous hours of Viennese songs in the coming weeks!“

Viennese music in new formats for young people

The range of Viennese music is reflected in the entire program of the Wienerliedfestival, which takes place at various locations in Vienna until May 11th: “At wean hean we will hear again this year how innovative and refreshing Viennese music is. Some of the participants have even implemented their own composition and arrangement commissions for the 2024 festivalsays production manager Susanne Rosenlechner about the festival program. These include the Viennese song as an electro remix on Ang’steckt is! in Club U or “Weana Gschroppn” a live radio play for children about the music history of Vienna.
