Strong expansion quarter at SMATRICS EnBW: 40 fast charging points installed in the first quarter of 2024

SMATRICS EnBW is creating Austria’s fastest charging network and had already recorded almost 25 percent increase in high-speed charging points by the end of March.

Vienna (OTS) From 176 to 216 in just three months – that’s how many fast charging points SMATRICS EnBW added in Austria in the first quarter of the current year. At Another six locations in Austria now have 40 fast charging points with up to 400 kW available: Four new charging points in Vienna (Siemensstraße), twelve in Vösendorf and St. Pölten (Lower Austria), 20 in Vorchdorf and Vöcklabruck (Upper Austria) and four further charging points in Arnoldstein (Carinthia).

With the 40 new high-speed charging points that we set up in the first quarter, electric car drivers have access to additional state-of-the-art charging points with up to 400 kW to achieve a range of up to 400 kilometers in around 15 minutes, depending on the input power load“, says Thomas Landsbek, CEO of SMATRICS EnBW, pleased. The six locations are spread along the southern and western highways across four federal states. With this offer, SMATRICS EnBW is also consolidating the cross-border EnBW HyperNetz for drivers in Austria with fast charging points of the highest performance class.

Hauke Hinrichs, COO of SMATRICS EnBW, explains further: “When setting up charging infrastructure, we focus on current needs and expand the fast charging network where it is needed most.“ 36 of the 40 new HPC charging points (High Power Charging) were built in Vienna, Lower Austria and Upper Austria – the top 3 federal states for new electric vehicle registrations in 2023.

First SMATRICS EnBW charging park opened in Upper Austria

In Vorchdorf at the A1 Vorchdorf exit, SMATRICS EnBW built the first large charging hub in Upper Austria with a total of 16 charging points. The hub is in the immediate vicinity of restaurants and gas stations, which can be ideally used to bridge the short charging time. Not only residents benefit from these additional e-charging options, but also tourism, especially around the popular holiday lakes Traunsee and Attersee. “SMATRICS EnBW already operates the largest public fast-charging network in Austria“, said Thomas Landsbek. “We are working on further shortening the distances between locations. Over the next few years, we want to provide ultra-fast charging approximately every 40 km.“The electricity to operate the charging stations continues to come from 100 percent renewable energy from VERBUND.

Charge where everyday life takes place

SMATRICS EnBW sets up its HPC chargers primarily along high-level road networks as well as in supermarket parking lots and in cities in order to pick up drivers where everyday life and fast charging go together perfectly. There are 24 such charging points from SMATRICS EnBW in parking lots at BILLA branches: twelve of them are in Lower Austria – four in Vösendorf and eight in St. Pölten. BILLA has four additional fast charging points available in Arnoldstein (Carinthia), Vöcklabruck (Upper Austria) and Vienna (Siemensstrasse).
