SPÖ-Sartenheim on Brunner’s pension plans: “Possible Nehammer successor prepares blue-black”

Brunner wants to increase the statutory retirement age – Dangerous threat for hard-working people – SPÖ shows blue-black pension robbery the red card

Vienna (OTS/SK) SPÖ Federal Managing Director Klaus Seltenheim sharply criticizes the statements made by ÖVP Finance Minister Brunner following his trip to Denmark: “ÖVP Minister Brunner raves about the fact that the increase in the retirement age to 67 or 68 years was ‘pushed through’. “This is a dangerous threat for Austrian workers and fits seamlessly into the horrors of the black and blue governments when it comes to pensions,” said Seltenheim. Under Black and Blue, pensions were drastically cut and not adjusted to inflation for years and the retirement age was increased. “It is quite obvious that Brunner is already preparing a blue-black coalition with his plans to cut pensions,” warns Seltenheim, recalling that Brunner put himself forward as a possible Nehammer successor around a month ago, leaving the question of a coalition with the FPÖ open. For Seltenheim one thing is certain: “We show Blue-Black the red card! With the SPÖ in government, there will be no increase in the statutory retirement age to 67,” the SPÖ federal manager told the SPÖ press service on Thursday. ****

Seltenheim also rejects Brunner’s favored switch from our secure, state-financed, pay-as-you-go pension system to a funded provision, because that means: “Investments are made in stocks and bonds – a risky game with the employees’ contributions.” All forecasts show this It is clear in black and white that the state pension system is secure – “and we are the guarantor of secure pensions,” said the SPÖ federal manager. “The SPÖ makes politics for the vast majority in the country. We make Austria better and fairer. And only a strong SPÖ can prevent the blue-black horror coalition,” said Seltenheim.
