Living with the storks | ORF regional studio Lower Austria, March 27, 2024

TV magazine “Land and People” on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. on ORF 2

St. Pölten (OTS) Storks and the Burgenland town of Rust on Lake Neusiedl: an inseparable connection, as is now impressively demonstrated again between mid-March and mid-April. The storks return to Europe from their winter quarters in Africa. In Rust they receive a particularly warm welcome: the Rust am See stork association prepares, cleans and repairs the nests year after year before the storks arrive. Through ecological landscape management on the lakeshore, he ensures that the white storks have a habitat that is as natural and protected as possible. For around 30 years, the association has also taken care of emergencies, injured storks and stork chicks that have fallen out of the nest. The “Land and People” team accompanies Rudi Karassowitsch, one of the chairmen of the stork association, as he looks after the nest and the storks and listens to the elegant birds chattering lively in the freshly made nest.

Further topics from “Land and People” on April 6th:

*Mobile chicken farming
In Styria, “Land und Leute” accompanies a mobile chicken coop that was awarded the Vifzack Agricultural Innovation Prize. At August Hütter from Krusdorf near Straden, day-old chicks and adult chickens have a protected home and freedom at the same time.

*Advice in Slovenian
Since January, the Carinthian Chamber of Agriculture has had an advice center for Slovenian-speaking farmers. Close cooperation with the specialist departments and the state’s ethnic group office offers comprehensive advice.

*Brutal local
Don’t use exotic foods, instead use everything from the region, from spices to mustard – an inn in Mank in Lower Austria is breaking new ground. “Country and People” receives relevant recipe tips for the “Brilliantly cooked – sustainably supplied” section.

*Travel through the Gosau Valley
The Gosautal in the inner Salzkammergut in Upper Austria with the Dachstein and the Gosausee is a true natural jewel. The artist and good expert on the high valley, Paul Gamsjäger, takes us to special places.
