On March 23rd at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Dr. Christine Reiler will present the following articles in the ORF health magazine “Bewusst Gesundheit” on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2:

Pancreatic cancer – early diagnosis, better chances

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer in Austria, alongside colon, prostate and breast cancer. Initially, pancreatic cancer causes few symptoms. The first signs are usually general and non-specific complaints, which can also have a number of other causes, and are therefore often not associated with pancreatic cancer. However, a late diagnosis and the resulting advanced stage of the disease limit therapy enormously and contribute to an unfavorable prognosis. Design: Denise Kracher

“Consciously healthy” tip: behavior after abdominal surgery

Whether appendectomy or inguinal hernia – many abdominal procedures are now carried out endoscopically. In some cases, an abdominal incision and therefore a hospital stay of several days is necessary. Univ.-Prof. explains what needs to be taken into account after being discharged from the hospital. Dr. Siegfried Meryn.

Mourning crime thriller – literary coping with a death

The death of a loved one is difficult to cope with and places extreme psychological strain on those left behind. Processing such an event takes time and sometimes professional help. A Viennese man dealt with the loss of his brother in an unusual way. He completed a crime novel that his brother had started writing shortly before he was diagnosed with brain cancer. In this way he was able to bring the deceased back to life to some extent. Design: Christian Kugler

Tuberculosis – Danger from multi-resistant bacteria

World Tuberculosis Day commemorates the discovery of the bacterium that causes tuberculosis on March 24, 1882 by Robert Koch. Tuberculosis remains one of the deadliest diseases worldwide. More than ten million people become ill with TB every year and cases of multi-resistant tuberculosis pathogens are becoming increasingly common. In “Consciously Healthy” Prof. Dr. Helmut Salzer from the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Kepler University Hospital in Linz explains the disease, the therapy and what antibiotic resistance means for the future treatment of tuberculosis.

Horseradish – spicy and healthy

Be it egg horseradish, horseradish with smoked meat, sausages or ham – horseradish has a long tradition at the Easter table. The medicinal plant stimulates digestion, acts against viruses and bacteria and promotes blood circulation. That’s why you shouldn’t just use horseradish at Easter. The local root can also be used in a variety of ways – whether as horseradish soup, spread or in a smoothie. Design: Steffi Zupan
