ImWind receives approval for Birstein-Aurora wind farm

Green light for the construction of ImWind’s first wind farm in Germany with 54 megawatts

Vienna/Lambsheim (OTS) In Birstein, in the Main-Kinzig district, Hesse, a fresh wind of sustainable energy production will soon be blowing. The Darmstadt regional council has given the green light for the construction of nine wind turbines in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG). ImWind and GAIA, pioneers in the field of renewable energies and cooperation partners in this project, announce this positive development. With a total output of 54 megawatts, the wind farm will make a significant contribution to the regional energy supply and send a clear signal for the expansion of renewable energies in the region.

The wind farm was developed jointly by ImWind and GAIA. GAIA was responsible for the project development up to the approval of the wind farm, while ImWind, as the project applicant, is responsible for the construction and operation of the wind turbines. Both partners emphasize the good cooperation with the Darmstadt regional council, the municipality of Birstein, the owners and other parties involved.

“We are very satisfied with the overall development of the project. Despite challenges caused by the corona pandemic and changed legal framework conditions, the Birstein-Aurora project was approved in a relatively short time.”says Vladimir Radik, project manager at GAIA.

Martin Jeromin, head of German business at ImWind, emphasizes the high level of acceptance of the project among the population, which is also due to the transparent information policy of ImWind and GAIA. “The transparent communication throughout the entire project development ensured the full support of the Birstein community.”says Jeromin and highlights the project website, information events in the districts of Birstein and close cooperation with the community as important measures.

Mayor Fabian Fehl von Birstein emphasizes in this context: “The public relations work and the involvement of the political committees right down to the details of the contract helped ensure that the project was not complained about in the end.” However, the municipality’s financial participation in accordance with Section 6 of the EEG was crucial in achieving acceptance. “Climate protection is important, but climate targets alone do not create acceptance for a local project. You only get that if the people on site see a direct benefit from the systems.”

The planned and modern wind turbines from the Danish manufacturer Vestas, type V162, each with a total nominal output of 6 megawatts (MW), enable efficient wind harvesting and thus greater profitability even in poor wind conditions. ImWind and GAIA expect to be awarded the contract as part of the EEG tender over the course of the year. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2025.
