ÖVP-Thaler: “EURO 7 aims to further develop the combustion engine”

European Parliament adopts EURO 7 emission standards also for brakes and tires as well as battery and vehicle lifespan – door open for biofuels and e-fuels

Strasbourg (OTS) “The new EURO 7 emissions rules for all motor vehicles are aimed at further developing the combustion engine, which is ambitious but technically feasible. After the expected lifting of the combustion engine ban, the law will ensure that engines ‘made in Europe’ are not only the most efficient, but also are also the cleanest in the world. Operating with biofuels and e-fuels, the green combustion engine will not only strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, but will also make a contribution to Europe’s energy independence and our climate protection goals,” says MEP Barbara Thaler at this evening’s The upcoming final adoption of the EURO 7 regulation for emissions and battery durability of motor vehicles in the EU in the European Parliament plenary session. Thaler is the ÖVP’s transport spokesperson in the European Parliament and deputy. Transport Spokesperson for the Group of the European People’s Party.

According to the agreement between the European Parliament and member states, the EURO 7 law sets limits for exhaust emissions and – this is new – non-exhaust emissions such as particles from brakes and tires. It also sets minimum performance requirements for battery life in electric cars and imposes stricter vehicle life requirements. The regulation also provides for the use of advanced technologies and instruments for emissions monitoring. The future law brings emission limits for all motor vehicles, i.e. cars, vans, buses and trucks, into a uniform set of rules and replaces the previously separate emission regulations for cars and vans (EURO 6) and trucks and buses (EURO VI).

The Council of Member States still has to formally approve the EURO 7 Regulation before it can come into force. (Ending)
