The strengthening of the margins on the left and right must be a warning signal for us
Vienna (OTS) – “The People’s Party remains the mayor’s and municipality’s party. Despite headwinds, we as a people’s party managed to retain the majority of our mayors and in some cases expand majorities. It is the mayors and local councilors who know the concerns of their community and make their communities the livable places that they are. Our political representatives at community level listen directly to the population and have been trusted for this. Today they have proven once again that they can survive even in stormy times. I would like to warmly congratulate the Salzburg People’s Party and all its members and officials on this hard-fought and respectable result in the Salzburg municipal council elections,” congratulates the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker.
“The result in the city of Salzburg is of course a painful downer. However, it is quite clear to see here that this is an isolated event in which, as is so often the case in local politics, local circumstances and issues were decisive,” Stocker continues and warns in conclusion: “Unfortunately, we are experiencing this again this time that with the FPÖ, but especially with the KPÖ, the radical forces on the margins of our society have been strengthened. We see that those who rely on envy and fear-mongering are on the rise – not just in Salzburg, but throughout Europe. Against the background of such developments, it is all the more important that we continue to stand up strongly for the center of society and for peaceful coexistence in prosperity. As the last remaining centrist party, only the People’s Party can guarantee this.”
