“Heimat Fremde Heimat”: How does the Palestinian community in Austria deal with the Middle East conflict?

On March 10th at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Ajda Sticker presents the ORF magazine “Heimat Fremde Heimat” on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following contributions:

Palestinian community in Austria – a picture of the mood

The war in Gaza has been in the public eye for months, including Palestinians in the diaspora. Since the Middle East conflict has escalated, they have increasingly taken to the streets to draw attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and to demonstrate for the rights of people in the Palestinian territories. How did the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th and the subsequent war in Gaza affect the lives of the Palestinian community in Austria? How are they dealing with the ongoing Middle East conflict? A mood picture by Adriana Jurić.

Jewish-Muslim friendship

One is an imam, the other a community rabbi: Ramazan Demir and Schlomo Hofmeister have been friends for years. They have also visited Israel together several times. Together they are committed to interreligious dialogue and also against anti-Semitism. Given current events in the Middle East, the question arises: How is this Jewish-Muslim friendship possible in times of war? And what perspective for hope is there? Sandra Szabo reports.
