A fish called Frauennerfling: “Lower Austria today” about a mistake that made waves

On March 9th at 7 p.m. on ORF 2 Lower Austria

Vienna (OTS) The case has caused a stir not only in this country, but even in newspapers in Germany: Last week, fish cakes were prepared in the weekly “Delicious culinary” section of the “Lower Austria Today” program. A protected fish, the so-called Frauennerfling, was cooked. In contrast to the Nerfling, it is protected all year round because it is one of the endangered native fish species. The food was cooked according to an old recipe that can also be used to prepare very bone-rich fish. ORF Niederösterreich has already apologized for this mistake on air.

On Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at 7 p.m., “Lower Austria today” will also explain in more detail how the error could have occurred – together with Roland Lukesch, the innkeeper who cooked and with the managing director of the Lower Austrian State Fishing Association, Gregor Gravogl.

Host Roland Lukesch is grateful for the opportunity to comment: “I asked a well-known fisherman to bring a white fish because it is a traditional white fish dish. He made a mistake and brought a woman’s nerfling, that was our misfortune. We are very sorry for the error. Everyone, me and the fisherman.” The mix-up also occurred because the fisherman mistakenly assigned the women’s Nerfling to the Nerfling’s removal specifications.
