The documentation also shows the sensual beauty of the craft – completely outside of the usual celebrity cult.

More about the content:

Women are still a rarity in top-class gastronomy and are only slightly visible. The documentary “She Chef” aims to help change that. The directors Melanie Liebheit and Gereon Wetzel show the career of the young chef Agnes Karrasch in renowned star restaurants in Vienna, Cologne, Barcelona, New York and the Faroe Islands. After her training in Austria’s top restaurant Steirereck, the then 25-year-old won the World Cooking Championships in Luxembourg with the Austrian youth national team. Shortly afterwards, Karrasch begins her apprenticeship and traveling years. She wants to learn from the best chefs in the world and has the opportunity to look into the kitchens of the gourmet temples “Vendôme” in Bergisch-Gladbach, “Disfrutar” in Barcelona and “Koks” on the Faroe Islands. As different as the personalities and styles of the famous chefs she meets there may be, they have one thing in common: they are all men. There are enough reasons for this: stress, physically demanding work and family-unfriendly working hours. Topics that Agnes repeatedly discusses with her colleagues. They all want shorter working hours, more breaks and a friendlier tone. The only way to escape the current structures is to become self-employed. On the other hand, working in a fine kitchen with exquisite products and a creative, sustainable concept is the only option for her.
