AUVA chairman Watz and general director Bernart must resign – a quick solution is required for patients and employees
Vienna (OTS/SK) – “Now we have in black and white what the SPÖ has always warned about: the ÖVP policy for large donors is costing patients dearly,” says SPÖ chairman Andreas Babler, commenting on the plans to close the AUVA Lorenz-Böhler Accident Hospital. “Instead of the billion patients promised, the black-blue health insurance reform only had one purpose: namely an employer-dominated majority in all self-governing bodies. We can now see the result: two ÖVP employer representatives decide, over the heads of the employees and on the backs of the patients, to have a hospital that is relevant to care closed from one day to the next. And why? So that you can boast about savings on your company’s balance sheet. This is an egregious management failure. AUVA chairman Watz and general director Bernart must resign,” demands the SPÖ leader. ****
It has been known for over ten years that the building owned by the federal government or the AUVA needed to be renovated in terms of fire protection. Nothing was done. On the contrary: With the reduction of accident insurance contributions by Black and Blue, public health care in this area was further thinned out, while the friends and major donors of the FPÖ and ÖVP were showered with funding via the private hospital financing fund. “This is ÖVP-FPÖ clientel politics as it is written in the book. And I will put an end to that as reform chancellor,” assures Babler.
“Now it’s about finding the best solution for the patients and the hospital’s employees as quickly as possible. The fact that the city of Vienna is stepping in to ensure security of supply for the population shows that it makes a difference who is in government. Do we want ÖVP-FPÖ clientele for major donors or a social democratic policy for the majority of people, in which not the credit card, but the e-card guarantees the best care in the event of illness?” asks Babler.
