LR Schleritzko: “The community conference is an annual highlight that shows how the latest findings can be put into practice.”
St.Pölten (OTS) – The “Nature in the Garden” community conference on March 1, 2024 in Korneuburg dealt with ways to deal with drought, bring more greenery into communities and promote biodiversity. Lawn alternatives and drought-tolerant perennials were presented and an overview of current options for rainwater management in residential areas was given. Assistance with optimal protection of trees at construction sites and successful practical examples from communities rounded off the morning.
The afternoon began with the blue and yellow ground bonus for unsealing measures in municipal areas. Provincial Councilor Ludwig Schleritzko: “With the blue-yellow soil bonus, we as the state of Lower Austria are promoting projects to unseal the surface, measures to improve water infiltration, storage and evaporation and thus also improve the microclimate. By preserving existing green spaces and creating new ones wherever possible, we can actively respond to climate change. Our communities are important partners in this.”
To ensure more diversity in community greenery, the “Planted Bee Bed” and the “Hedgehog-Friendly Community” were also discussed at the community conference. Equipment for maintaining paths in cemeteries was tested and the partner companies of “Natur im Garten” were introduced to the “Market of Possibilities”. In-depth working groups with the speakers concluded the program.
