For the first time, preventive examinations are taking place in the neighborhood centers of the Vienna Relief Organization

Vienna (OTS) In cooperation with the Health Service of the City of Vienna (MA 15), preventive examinations are taking place for the first time this week directly in the Neighborhood Center 2 in Leopoldstadt. The high utilization and waiting lists show the great need. Further investigations will follow between June and October 2024 in the relief organization neighborhood centers throughout Vienna.

Wien, 28.2.2024 – Preventive examinations serve to detect illnesses early. Every person who lives in Austria and is at least 18 years old can receive a free health examination once a year – because health is a basic and human right and as such is firmly anchored in Vienna’s health policy. The Vienna Relief Organization’s neighborhood centers continue this approach and make access to preventive examinations as low-threshold and inclusive as possible.

The first preventive examinations in the Neighborhood Center 2 in Leopoldstadt will run this week from February 26th to March 1st, 2024. The blood test was taken on Monday, and further examinations with the doctors on site are scheduled until the end of this week. One of the 38 participants is Corinna D., who is enthusiastic about the initiative: “It’s great because it’s happening right in the neighborhood – otherwise I would never have done the test so quickly. The fact that everything takes place so compactly near me and in my usual surroundings is really helpful.Flu vaccination campaigns are also planned in the relief organization’s neighborhood centers from November.

Low-threshold access for everyone

With the preventive examinations directly in the neighborhood centers, a substantive and direct bridge is built to the Vienna health system and the topic of preventative care. People without an e-card and health insurance can also take part. Offering preventive examinations in a neighborhood center that is a social meeting place for a wide variety of people and age groups brings the topic of preventive care directly to the people. “As part of our district work, the topic of health and health promotion has been an integral part of our activities for more than 40 years. Offering preventive examinations together with MA 15 is a next, important step towards inclusive health care in the Grätzel – with the aim of increasing the proportion of people who regularly take advantage of preventive examinations“, says Sabine Geringer, managing director of the Vienna relief organization, about the successful cooperation.

We are pleased to be able to offer the very important health check-up to the people of Vienna at a low threshold in their own neighborhood in cooperation with the Vienna Relief Organization“, confirms Dr. Jochen Haidvogel, head of the health service of the city of Vienna.
