Housing subsidies: “We welcome the increase in income limits, but inflation will not be compensated for”

Linz (OTS) This week the draft for the amendment to the Upper Austrian version was published. Income limit regulation under review. It proposes to increase the income limits that entitle you to receive Upper Austrian housing subsidies from April 1, 2024. The income limits were last changed in 2012, twelve years ago. Since then, inflation has been almost 32 percent, and the construction cost index is even higher than inflation.

Calculations by the Chamber of Labor show that the adjustment of all relevant limit amounts proposed by the state of Upper Austria is below the actual inflation. “We welcome the increase. But it is incomprehensible that not even inflation is compensated for“, criticizes AK President Andreas Stangl.

The funding amounts should also have been increased. It would also be possible to decide on automatic indexation of the amounts. The reintroduction of earmarking at the federal level is also not being addressed“, said President Stangl.
