Vienna (OTS) – Next week marks the second anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine, and in Austria the share of Russian gas imports is higher than ever: in December it was 98 percent of total import volumes. However, since the war of aggression, the government had promised to drastically reduce the proportion. Why doesn’t Austria do what other EU countries have done? Why are attempts to withdraw from OMV’s contract with Gazprom failing? Did we miss the point? Why has the economic research institute only now been commissioned to examine the termination of the contract?
Will energy prices then be driven up? Are the coalition partners ÖVP and the Greens pulling in the same direction? Are we prepared for emergencies if Ukraine turns off the Russian gas tap at the end of 2024?
