SJ-Stich: “Nightmare wedding Kickl-Nehammer: We object!”

In a media campaign, Socialist Youth points out the danger of a coalition between the FPÖ and ÖVP

Vienna (OTS) “Nehammer and Kickl really like each other politically. They always act like they can’t get along, but as we know: when you love each other, you tease each other! We have already seen in the past months and years that the ÖVP and FPÖ get into bed together at the first opportunity after the elections. But we definitely object to this political marriage between right-wing and right-wing extremists that threatens us after the National Council election!“, said Paul Stich, chairman of the Socialist Youth, as part of a satirical media campaign.

During the media campaign at Stephansplatz, Chancellor Nehammer (ÖVP) and Herbert Kickl (FPÖ) were pictured at the wedding ceremony. For Stich, the ÖVP cannot be relied on when it comes to a coalition with the FPÖ: “As soon as the ÖVP is in danger of losing its government position after 37 years, it will do everything in its power to prevent that – that has the past has proven it several times. Karl Nehammer is all the more unbelievable when he explicitly rules out a coalition with Herbert Kickl: His party colleague Mikl-Leitner showed in Lower Austria that the ÖVP cannot be relied upon at all. Anyone who votes for the ÖVP wakes up with the FPÖ!”, Stich continued.

Finally, Stich emphasizes the need for majorities beyond the two parties: “ÖVP and FPÖ have no interest in sustainably solving even a single problem that young people will face in the coming years. On the contrary: both parties thrive on culture wars and right-wing symbolic politics, while they continue to improve the rights of working people and further undermine the welfare state. Black and blue always means racism and social cuts! The young people in this country really don’t deserve this. Majorities beyond black and blue are finally needed so that the urgent problems of our time – regardless of whether they are climate change, inflation or child poverty – can finally be addressed with the necessary political seriousness!”, concluded Stich.
