Föderl-Schmid case: ORF III “dispute time” on February 14th about society’s culture of errors

With, among others, Barbara Tóth, Fritz Hausjell and Hans Demmel in conversation with Peter Fässlacher

Vienna (OTS) How many mistakes does society allow and how does it deal with them? A new edition of the ORF III format “Streitzeit” will discuss these and other questions on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. using the example of reporting and social media postings about the journalist and currently deputy editor-in-chief who got caught in the public crossfire the Süddeutsche Zeitung Alexandra Föderl-Schmid.

There was great relief when the previously reported missing person was found alive under a bridge on the Inn in Upper Austria last Friday. The Mühlviertel native is currently confronted with accusations of plagiarism regarding her doctoral thesis, but also some of her journalistic texts. Are prejudice and the supposed moral superiority of (partial) publics the currency of our time? What regulations are needed on social media to prevent discussions that resemble public agitation? Peter Fässlacher talks about this with, among others, journalist Barbara Tóth (Falter), Fritz Hausjell, media scientist, publicist and president of Reporters Without Borders Austria, as well as media manager and journalist Hans Demmel.
