Vienna (OTS) – On the occasion of Equal Pay Day, the Green Economy draws attention to another problematic inequality: the unequal pay of the self-employed.
“While female employees are working for free until February 14th this year, self-employed women are working for more than half a year,” says Sabine Jungwirth, federal spokeswoman for the Green Economy. “Self-employed men earn more than twice as much as self-employed women. According to income reports from the Court of Auditors, the discrepancy is actually growing.
“
In the last income report from the Court of Auditors, the gender pay gap rose from 49.5% to 56.8% between 2018 and 2022!
“We all benefit from a fair economic system. Therefore, joint efforts are needed to create a framework for female entrepreneurs in which they earn the same as male self-employed people. This inequality must be eliminated,” said Jungwirth.
