Jungwirth | Green economy “Women entrepreneurs work for free more than half the year”

On Equal Pay Day, the Green Economy is calling for the removal of hurdles for female entrepreneurs.

Self-employed men earn more than twice as much as self-employed women. According to income reports from the Court of Auditors, the discrepancy is actually growing.

Vienna (OTS) On the occasion of Equal Pay Day, the Green Economy draws attention to another problematic inequality: the unequal pay of the self-employed.

“While female employees are working for free until February 14th this year, self-employed women are working for more than half a year,” says Sabine Jungwirth, federal spokeswoman for the Green Economy. “Self-employed men earn more than twice as much as self-employed women. According to income reports from the Court of Auditors, the discrepancy is actually growing.

In the last income report from the Court of Auditors, the gender pay gap rose from 49.5% to 56.8% between 2018 and 2022!

“We all benefit from a fair economic system. Therefore, joint efforts are needed to create a framework for female entrepreneurs in which they earn the same as male self-employed people. This inequality must be eliminated,” said Jungwirth.
