Sustainably awarded: FH Kufstein Tirol receives the highest Green Event certification

The important Green Events Tirol (GET) Location award recognizes the long-standing commitment of the FH Kufstein Tirol to sustainable events.

Kufstein (OTS) The FH Kufstein Tirol has been able to call itself a GET location since February 7, 2024, which involved considerable efforts in the area of sustainable event organization, but also with internal adjustments in various areas. Green events are events that take ecological, social, economic and cultural sustainability into account. For several years, the Kufstein University has been implementing the strict guidelines of GET, an initiative of the Climate Alliance Tyrol and the Environmental Association of Tyrol in collaboration with the State of Tyrol, at its events. A total of 18 outstanding events according to these criteria took place in 2023. The continuous efforts have now led to this important award. The ceremonial awarding of the certificate took place in the historic Innsbruck country house by Climate Protection State Councilor René Zumtobel.

Pioneering role in environmentally friendly event organization

The FH Kufstein Tirol has not only specialized in sustainable event organization, but has also made internal adjustments in order to meet the high standards of a GET location. Certified facilities offer, among other things, barrier-free access and sanitary facilities, covered bicycle parking, use green electricity and pay strict attention to waste avoidance and environmentally friendly cleaning products. In addition, printing types are reduced to the bare minimum and only recycled paper is used in both printing and sanitary areas. Prof. (FH) Dr. Thomas Madritsch, Managing Director of the FH Kufstein Tirol, emphasizes the practical benefits: “We offer all organizers the best conditions to be able to hold sustainable events in our premises without much additional effort.” Communication with guests has also changed: “We encourage our guests to choose public transportation, bike or walk to our events,” reports Mag. Thomas Petzold, event manager at the FH Kufstein Tirol. “Traveling to an event is responsible for a large part of the CO2 emissions at an event. We are counteracting this by actively promoting local public transport,” said Petzold.

Sustainability: Integral application in studies

The head of the Sports, Culture & Event Management course, Prof. (FH) Mag. Monika Kohlhofer, emphasizes the importance of green events in the event industry: “It is of utmost importance in the event sector to anchor the topic of sustainability even more firmly and this is where we focus on the course. Our practical projects must all be aligned to GET’s criteria and, ideally, be certified“. The practical project group shows that this can be achieved extremely well Indie Sunsetwhich will receive the highest GET award in 2023 for the music festival of the same name Star has been awarded.

As a GET location, the FH Kufstein Tirol is proud to contribute to the promotion of sustainable events and to continue to serve as a role model for other institutions.
