“Report” about farmers under pressure – on February 6th at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2

Live discussion with ÖVP Farmers’ Association President Georg Strasser and Green Party General Secretary and organic farmer Olga Voglauer

Vienna (OTS) Susanne Schnabl will present the “Report” on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:

Farmers under pressure

Both love their jobs and yet both think about quitting or emigrating every day. Daniela Wintereder is the largest cattle breeder in Austria, who fulfilled her childhood dream of running an organic cattle ranch in the northern Weinviertel. She owns 600 Angus cattle, but the rancher still complains about harassment that is bringing more and more cattle farmers to their knees. Siegfried Salchenegger is the sixth generation to run his parents’ farm near Murau. While the price of meat has hardly changed in the past 30 years, energy costs have exploded. There is no fairness in the free market as long as imports are allowed that are not produced according to the high Austrian standards. “If we farmers were a soccer team,” says Salchenegger, “we would play uphill with half as many players and a goal twice as big.” Sabina Riedl reports.

There will also be a live discussion with ÖVP Farmers’ Association President Georg Strasser and Green Party General Secretary and organic farmer Olga Voglauer

Obligation to work

Several federal states are now planning to require asylum seekers to do community service work. Among other things, Upper Austria, Salzburg and Vorarlberg, which want to bind asylum seekers with the so-called “Vorarlberg Code”. The Ministry of the Interior has not expressed any objections and has left implementation to the states – each state should assess for itself whether state law provisions are affected. How does the system of previously voluntary charitable work work? What problems arise in practice? The “Report” researched this in Salzburg and Vorarlberg. A report by Miriam Ressi and Julia Ortner.

Strong beer, weak Corona

While the MFG is hardly measurable in surveys, the beer party is experiencing soaring heights. Both groups want to take part in the upcoming National Council elections. “Report” examines the question of why the vaccination-critical, right-wing MFG is fighting for survival and the left-wing musician Dominik Wlazny has a good chance of entering parliament. A report by Yilmaz Gülüm and Alexander Sattmann.
