Art and Culture State Secretary Mayer on the death of Wolfgang Hollegha

Vienna (OTS) “Without the work of Wolfgang Hollegha, Austrian art history would have been written differently. Not only did he celebrate significant successes very early on in the context of abstract expressionism, but – despite his early, steep international career – he chose Austria as his place of work and thus allowed our artistic and cultural nation to shine in a way that remains unique. As a teacher, Hollegha inspired and shaped future generations for 25 years at the Academy of Fine Arts. In his studio on Rechberg, his laboratory for contemplating and perceiving nature, he translated the objective, visible world in his unprecedented artistic process into colorful manuscripts that are able to deeply touch their viewers. It fills me with comfort and gratitude that he and his art live on in his extensive oeuvre. My condolences go out to his family, his friends and his numerous companions,” said State Secretary for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer.
