#thenewITgirlsonBOARDing: New initiative for more women and digital diversity on supervisory boards

Start there Crowdfunding Campaign

Vienna/Krems (OTS) The future of business leadership requires digital literacy and a greater presence of women in leadership positions. The new project “#thenewITgirlsonBOARDing” faces this double challenge, initiated by #thenewITgirls – Association for the Promotion of Women in IT and Digital Governance Excellence (DGE), the network for supervisory board members with digital competence.

The initiative aims to recruit and train qualified women with a technical background for supervisory board positions. Today marks the start of a crowdfunding campaign to support this effort.

Challenge and solutions

Both digital and technical know-how are still underrepresented in some places on Austrian supervisory boards. At the same time, the proportion of women in these committees has increased continuously in recent years, but is still too low. Both represent a serious barrier to the sustainable development of companies.

Jacqueline Erhart, Co-Founder von Digital Governance Excellence (DGE):

We need more supervisory board members who have mastered digitalization, have experience, think ahead and incorporate the idea of diversity in a contemporary way of thinking. I am convinced that women who are at home in the digital world bring a fresh perspective to supervisory boards. Your participation is crucial to promote innovative solutions and create a future-oriented corporate culture.

Kristina Maria Brandstetter, board member of #thenewITgirls, emphasizes:

There are many talented, digitally savvy women who have specific expertise and are ready to make a difference on boards. Our mission is to recognize and support these women and pave their way to management levels. At the same time, we can make these role models visible and encourage even more women to imitate them.

Michael Weilguny, co-founder of Digital Governance Excellence (DGE), adds:

With #thenewITgirlsonBOARDing, we are taking an important step not only to raise awareness of this important issue, but also to offer viable solutions by specifically investing in the training and support of women.

Further training with compatibility

The project offers a complete scholarship for the modular certificate program “Professional Supervisory Board and Committee Activities” that can be completed on the weekend, which covers the course costs as well as additional costs such as childcare and travel costs. Through the partnership with the Danube University Krems – University for Continuing Education, represented by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Ratka, LL.M., will be sponsored a second training position once the crowdfunding amount of 7,500 euros is reached.

Every donation, large or small, helps achieve the goal!

The initiators

#thenewITgirls – Association for the promotion of women in IT was founded in 2019 by Doris Schlaffer and Astrid Wieland. The award-winning team of industry experts works on a voluntary basis to make the industry more attractive for women, to reduce social prejudices, to promote diversity and to make women and career profiles in IT and digitalization visible in Austria and beyond its borders.

Digital Governance Excellence is the platform for digital and technical supervisory boards. The heart project of Jacqueline Erhart and Michael Weilguny wants to bring more digital and technical know-how to the supervisory board and is building a pool of people who have expertise in both the digital/technical and supervisory board law areas.
