The Austrian Cartell Association (ÖCV) sees culture and science in Leoben at risk
Vienna (OTS) – Acting ÖCV President Matthias Arth is both irritated and frightened by the announcements by the new rector of the Montanuniversität Leoben, Peter Moser, that student associations are to be pushed out of the university: “We, the Catholic associations, are not traditional associations, but a living part a Europe-wide network (n.k. EKV) of students who, among other things, help to look beyond their own place of study and field of study through lectures and discussion events. Without our presence (the ÖCV), university life in Leoben will be a lot poorer. Cancel culture should have no place on universities, a problem that was recently discussed in our medium “Academia”. But it is precisely this repression that results in the dismantling of a diverse and diverse university.”
The Austrian Cartell Association currently has around 100 students and well over 600 graduates from the Montanuniversität Leoben. Over generations, members of ÖCV associations have shaped the four principles (foundation pillars), science (Latin scientia), lifelong friendship (amicitia), the Catholic faith (religio) and the commitment to the sovereign, democratic Republic of Austria (patria ), not only the life on campus, but also the nature and history of the university from teaching across culture and tradition.
„A displacement of student associations, of institutions that have shaped the university the way they did, is tantamount to a displacement of diversity at our universities!
“, says ÖCV President Arth. Finally, Arth points out that the social and political environment is becoming increasingly critical: “Stop the suppression of diversity in any form. Stop the cancel culture against us too!
”
