“Hohes Haus” about the start of the super election year

On February 4th at 12 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Rebekka Salzer presents the ORF parliamentary magazine “Hohes Haus” on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 12 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:

No secret

Austria is one of the last countries in Europe to have a modern freedom of information law. After long negotiations and a few final changes, the SPÖ also approved the government parties’ proposal on Wednesday. The necessary constitutional majority is therefore given. The Freedom of Information Act finally removes official secrecy from the constitution and gives citizens a right to information from the state. In addition, public bodies will in future have to publish information of general interest such as commissioned reports, studies and contracts. The law is scheduled to come into force on September 1, 2025. FPÖ and NEOS did not agree.

In Rebekka Salzer’s studio, the deputy club chairmen of SPÖ, Jörg Leichtfried, and NEOS, Nikolaus Scherak, debate.

Start of the super election year

It can no longer be ignored that the parties have now geared up for election campaigns in this super election year with EU and National Council elections. The debates in the National Council were correspondingly tough at times on Wednesday. There were also requests from the SPÖ and FPÖ for a National Council election as soon as possible. As expected, these motions did not receive a majority. At least an audit report from the Court of Auditors on pensions was unanimously acknowledged. The Court of Auditors sees a need for action to secure the pension system. Claus Bruckmann reports.
