England wins the 33rd international fireworks competition in Hanover

Glossy climax in the anniversary year: the English team Pyrotex Fireworx has won the 33rd international fireworks competition of Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG). With your show “Lights, Camera, Action” On September 20, 2025, they delighted the jury and the audience alike in Herrenhausen and prevailed against strong international competition.

The second place went to the team Firemaster Productions aus Kanadawhile the team DFP Vuurwerk from the Netherlands third place.

In front of around 11,500 spectators, Pyrotex Firewworx converted the large garden into an open-air cinema full of light, music and emotions. Under the motto “Lights, Camera, Action”, the team told stories from legendary films such as Gladiator, Rocky or Star Wars. The precise coordination of fireworks, music and famous speakers made scenes come to life and made the evening a special experience.

Founded in 1999 by Mark Kelsall, Pyrotex Firewworx is one of the most successful pyrotechnics teams of Great Britain today. They convinced worldwide with concentrated know-how from fireworks and music industry- most recently in 2024 in Vancouver with a jury and audience award and in 2019 as “Grand Champions” in the Philippines. With the victory in Hanover, the team continued its impressive success story.

The jury assessed the performances according to clear criteria:

  • Overall impression and creativity
  • Synchronity with the music
  • Technical implementation
  • Color design and effects
  • Difficulty and innovation

In the end, the coherent overall impression decided: The perfect interaction of music, light and fireworks made the 25-minute show the winner of 2025.

Historical connection England – Hanover

In the anniversary year 2025, only pyrotechnics teams were invited, the countries of which have a close connection to the history of Hannover and the Herrenhausen Gardens. This also includes England: in 1701 the “Act of Settleement” created the basis for the English royal throne of the Welfen. Sophie von Hanover, the first Protestant in the succession of the throne, died in 1714 shortly before her coronation, but her son Georg I caught the throne and justified the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover, which had existed until 1837. English Welfenkönige regularly visited Herrenhausen – a cultural heritage that was impressively alive with the guest appearance of Pyrotex Fireworx.

International fireworks competition 2026: Dance of Northern Lights

Also in 2026, the Herrenhausen Gardens are turning back into a stage for top -class pyrotechnics. Under the motto “Dance of Northern Lights”, five teams from northern Europe compete against each other – inspired by the fascinating northern lights. Between May and September they sparked spectacular shows from music, light and colors in front of a baroque garden backdrop. Each staging begins with the compulsory piece Gustav Holts “Jupiter”, played by the NDR Radiophilharmonie before the teams present their freestyle programs. A diverse supporting program with cuisine, music and promotions for children rounds off the evenings.
