Next Saturday, the pillared hall of the World Museum Vienna will become a vibrating resonance room for an extraordinary sound trip: the Kenyan DJ, producer and sound artist alai k can be experienced live in Vienna for the first time. Alai K became known as the co-founder of the hip-hop collective Ukoo Flani from Mombasa, today his sound goes beyond the underground scene: he is an invitation not only to hear African sound knowledge, but to feel. With his platform Disco Vumbi and publications on renowned labels such as Nyege Nyege Tapes (Uganda) or on the Corner Records (UK), he has long been part of a new generation of African musicians who have traditional forms of music merge with electronic avant -garde – without losing their cultural roots.
