On Friday, September 12, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony in the archduke Johann barracks was given the starting signal for the new construction of a modern workshop. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner opened the construction project together with numerous representatives from politics, business and the military. The investment amounts to around 10.5 million euros and replaces outdated facilities. Completion is planned for December 2026.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “With the establishment of this state -of -the -art workshop, we set an important milestone for the further development of our army. I would like to thank everyone who has made this project possible from planning to implementation. This investment not only strengthens the operational readiness of our troop, but also underlines our clear commitment to modernize and future ability to state Austrian state defense.”
The workshop is built in solid construction from location concrete and prefabricated components with a thermal insulation composite system. It is designed in such a way that it meets the increasing requirements of new vehicles and equipment. With the new infrastructure, around 400 vehicles, 800 weapons and 500 communication systems can be checked and repaired each year.
Directorate 7 – Infrastructure is entrusted with the implementation of the project. It is a department of the Austrian Federal Ministry for national defense and is responsible for military building, property and housing as well as other areas such as forestry and surveying. It plans and supervises construction projects, repairs and the equipment of barracks to maintain and improve the Bundesheer infrastructure.
