“Preventing child poverty is a basic social democratic principle.”

Today’s child was all about equal opportunities. Under the motto “A city #for alleys”, colorful family festivals took place in all 23 districts – organized by the children’s friends, which once more focused on the importance of child rights. SPÖ Vienna state party chairman Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig and SPÖ Vienna State Party Secretary Jörg Neumayer, MA used the day to draw attention to the need for the same opportunities for all children.

“Children have to have the same opportunities everywhere regardless of the postcode or the income of the parents. A social democratic basic principle. Vienna shows that this can succeed with social responsibility, clear vision and consistent action,” said SPÖ Vienna State Party Chairman Dr. Michael Ludwig.

As this succeeds in practice, Vienna has been proving for many years: with nationwide, all -day childcare, over 120 all -day schools and low -threshold access to holiday care. These measures open up real opportunities for children to develop their talents and give them the opportunity to actively participate in social life.

“That is why we want to bring our Viennese proposals into the federal political debate,” continued Ludwig. “With benefits, such as educational, afternoon and holiday care, children will make real opportunities for social participation and qualitative education possible.” As a Viennese social democracy, we also demand the introduction of a nationwide basic security. It should be independent and independent of the minimum security and guarantee the same support.

“We understand equality of opportunities not only as a political program, but as a mandate for society as a whole,” adds SPÖ Vienna State Party Secretary Jörg Neumayer. “Our goal is to enable all children from the start to the best possible education and promotion – with well -equipped mandatory schools, the expansion of all -day school types and a modern digital infrastructure. In a city like Vienna, all children should have the same opportunities. Organizations such as children’s friends, whose great commitment to the family celebrations on the day of the child has become impressive again today.”
