“Whether green or blue-they give themselves little when it comes to free trade. All forces within the government should finally make a clear commitment to this fair agreement. Anyone who wants to receive Austria’s prosperity and secure jobs must rely on more free trade,” said Junos Federal Chairman Sophie Wotschke in response to the Green Mercosur media notification.
Especially in times of weak economic development and the trade conflict with the United States, it is crucial for an export country like Austria to rely on new sales markets, investments and growth. “Free trade with democratic partners is always better than dependence on autocrats. Agreement like Mercosur are a great opportunity for our country – new markets, safe jobs and more prosperity. At the same time, the precautionary principle and the high European standards remain untouched,” says Sophie Wotschke.
The Junos underline the high social and climate protection standards in the Agreement and reject the attempts by the Greens to play out agriculture against free trade: “Agriculture does not have to be afraid of Argentine cattle steak. The real challenges lie in bureaucracy, climate change and support. Wotschke continues.
“Fair free trade means more opportunities for companies, consumers and employees. Those who fight free trade at the end fight jobs and prosperity in Austria. The Greens should perhaps consider again whether they want to be part of the alliance of the free trade populists,” said Wotschke.
