The Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) is currently warning of an increasing number of fake email messages that are sent to citizens on behalf of the tax office. The fraudulent messages contain the information that a supposed audit 2024 is due, which should begin on September 15, 2025. Furthermore, it is asked to open the attached electronic protocol (email appendix). The attached protocol cannot be opened under any circumstances
The BMF continuously warns of such and similar fraud attempts that are made via various communication channels such as SMS, email and telephone calls.
The BMF emphasizes that this is an internet fraud attempt and that the sent messages and linked websites represent falsifications in the appendix.
Information from the BMF is generally in the form of modest and are sent by post or to the FinanzOnline Databox. The BMF never calls on citizens to transmit personal data such as passwords, credit card data or account information.
Therefore, if you receive such SMS and email messages with similar content, it is very likely that it is an internet fraud attempt.
