Von 12th to September 21, 2025 finds the fourteenth Edition of the festival Wienwoche in Vienna. Under the title “Breathe Again“Wienwoche in 2025 drills ventilation shafts into social zones with artistic and activist means that have solidified through the pressure of imperialism in such a way that many people literally run out of air to breathe. How and where does imperialism manifest what consequences does he indicate in the (new) colonialized societies? Can it be positioned?
The program of Wienwoche gives exemplary answers to these questions. The Habsburg monarchy and the German Empire, in particular, come into view, especially the dealings with the repressed legacy of the colonial period. The Aztec Squeric crown “El Penacho” exhibited in the Vienna World Museum Vienna Week enables the previously denied return to Mexico. The Unique Museum Berlin presented the Nefertet Bust unique as a plastic waste duplica.
The festival for art and activism also provides for imperialist zones of the present. Be it the regime of violence at the EU’s external borders and along the “Balkan route”, be it the exploitation of mineral resources legitimized by the EU in “strategic partner countries”-regardless of their ecological consequences.
The Vienna Woche management team presents the festival program and its contexts in German and English. U. a. Are the following questions answered: What does the invasive plant “Great Bear Connecessary” have to do with imperialist diplomacy? How can Flinta blow up the patriarchal hip-hop culture? Why do colonial systems shape the global food landscape and how is nutritional sovereignty fought? How can collective body work or memory work with textiles inherited, transgenerational (neo) colonial wounds healing? What projects combine Wienwoche with the DÖW, with the MAK, with the IG Flex and the IG Social of the GPA and with the “Black Women Community”?
