The tender had a total value of EUR 5.1 million, around half of which went to Wolftank. This system is being designed specifically for the hydrogen buses of Südtiroler Verkehrs AG (SASA) and is intended to complement the existing gas station built by the Wolftank Group in 2021. “By building this facility, we are not only creating additional infrastructure for emission-free mobility in Bolzano, but are also once again positioning ourselves as a pioneer who develops and implements future-oriented technologies to decarbonize transport,” says Peter Werth, CEO of the Wolftank Group. The new hydrogen filling station in Bolzano is a response to the increasing demand for sustainable mobility solutions. It supports SASA in its goal of modernizing the entire fleet by 2030 and converting a large part of it to zero- or low-emission buses. In this context, SASA plans to purchase new hydrogen buses, which require additional refueling infrastructure. The expansion of the existing H2 filling station will enable SASA to refuel the fleet of hydrogen-powered buses at more than just 350 bar. The system is also complemented by a 700 bar refueling system for last-generation cars and trucks. Three years ago, Wolftank demonstrated that it is possible to implement such projects in the shortest possible time by implementing one of the largest hydrogen filling stations for buses in Europe. “In spring 2021, we built the first hydrogen refueling system in Bolzano in a net record time of just nine weeks,” explains Matteo Ciarapica, Managing Director of Wolftank Italy. “The station has developed into a unique specimen that has already attracted hundreds of specialists as part of our ‘Renewable Energy Tour.’ “Contributing to reducing fleet emissions and promoting emission-free mobility. Projects like this are our engine to build the infrastructure for a clean future,” concludes CEO Peter Werth.
