Volkshilfe Wien: Innovation from the Grätzl – Community Work

For more than two years, “Volkshilfe Wien – Community Work” has been working together with Grätzl residents to ensure good, neighborly coexistence in Favoriten.

Vienna (OTS) The resolution passed today by the Vienna City Council not only secures work in the coming years, but also enables expansion into other districts.

High performers

In the last two years alone, over 50 projects were implemented and reached more than 3,000 people directly on site in Grätzl. Community work sees itself as a holistic offer for the neighborhoods. “Cultures and generations meet and create new ways of living together“, says Wehsely. Lighthouse figures from civil society are committed to their neighborhood as “community leaders.” “The driving school owner who, together with the bicycle entrepreneur, educates children and young people about coexistence on the road, the hairdresser’s salon owner who cuts children’s hair for free – these are top performers who want to give something back to society. They receive support from Community Work.

Versatile

Together with the community leaders, Community Work develops exciting new and sustainable projects: from the multilingual Favoritner women’s choir to driving safety training in elementary and middle schools to Grätzl festivals, cooking groups or far-reaching initiatives on the topic of violence protection. The projects are as diverse as the Grätzl themselves. Community work is accompanied by a scientific advisory board.

“It’s always amazing what ideas our community leaders come to us with,” says Amar Rajković, project manager at Community Work. “Over the last two years we have shown how peaceful coexistence in Favoriten works when you work together with people“.

“We look forward to the next few years and to expanding community work to other districts,” concluded Wehsely and Rajković. More information about community work at: https://cw.volkshilfe-wien.at/
