In March 2024 introduced as a limited edition, The Kraken was the first vegetable octopus alternative with deceptively real tentacle look, visible suction cups and bite-proof texture.
First of all, the product was considered “too niche” for a large production. But the first batch was sold out after 48 hours. Hundreds of inquiries from customers, restaurants and dealers followed. Despite the original uniqueness, the demand was too high to ignore it.
The Kraken polarized: While many celebrate innovation, others find the design “too realistic” or “creepy”. Comments From “Igitt” to “Omg, I have to try that!” Show the range of reactions.
Why The Kraken is important
While herbal burger & Co. are widespread, The Kraken takes a different way. The product wants to open up new perspectives on herbal alternatives.
At the same time, the Kraken octopuses focus on food. Over 200,000 tons of octopus are eaten annually in the EU. But through documentary like My Octopus Teacher Growing awareness of their intelligence – debates on octopus breeding bans are increasing.
What is The Kraken?
The Kraken is based on mushroom protein (mycoprotein), a fermented, minimally processed biomass with a complete amino acid profile and fiber texture. The product contains omega-3 fatty acids, many fiber and has Nutriscore “A”. The tentacle look makes it an eye-catcher.
The Kraken is produced in the Factory button in Vienna. It can be enjoyed raw or fried, especially in dishes in the “Pulpo style”.
