On July 1, 2025, a change in the Federal Council and the Governor’s Conference will take place. In both committees, the chair changes every six months, the state of Styria will be chaired in both institutions for the second half of 2025. The Salzburg-based ÖVP Federal Councilor Andrea Eder-Gitschthaler will give her chair for the state of Salzburg from the first half of 2025. Due to the result in the Styrian state elections, the ÖVP will now provide the Vice President of the Federal Council with Günther Ruprecht from July 1, 2025, which was elected today at the meeting. Ruprecht has been represented in the Federal Council since October 17, 2023.
Günther Ruprecht was born in Graz in 1977. The trained sporting goods specialist worked in a wide variety of stations. From 2004 to September 2015 he was an ÖVP district manager in Southeast Styria and from 2015 to 2023 the state manager of the Styrian ÖAAB. Since 2022 he has been a member of the State Party Board of the ÖVP Styria.
Since 2023 he has also been the state chairman of the Austrian employee association (ÖAAB) Styria and a member of the Federal Executive Board of the Austrian employee association (ÖAAB); Member of the district board of the Austrian employee association (ÖAAB) Southeast Styria since 2004.
Professionally, Ruprecht has been working as an organizational officer on the Central Works Council of Styria. Previously, from May 2023 to January 2025, he was managing director of the “Model Styria” of the Styrian People’s Party.
Ruprecht is married and father of two children.
The chairman of the ÖVP Federal Council Group, Harald Himmer, wished Günther Ruprecht every success for the new tasks and thanked Andrea Eder-Giftschthaler for their chair. (Ending)
