Cellectric Biosciencesa forward-looking biotech start-up based in Vienna, became the winner in the Life Sciences category EIT Health Catapult Chosen, a renowned, European Pitch competition for innovations in healthcare. The announcement was made yesterday at HLTH Europe in Amsterdam, a central event for the transformation of the healthcare system.
The competition, an initiative by Eit Health, part of the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (Eit)an institution of the European Union, aims to accelerate the growth of European start-ups in the healthcare system by gaining access to experts: interior and investor: inside. Catapult, which is now taking place in the ninth year, has already supported more than 300 start-ups, whereby a community of more than 550 investors: inside and 3,500 experts from the healthcare sector supports the program.
Cellectric Biosciences impressed the jury with its groundbreaking technology, which uses electrical fields to automate the handling of cells in laboratories – which means that the use of chemicals is superfluous and the precision is significantly increased. The innovation promises to revolutionize the work processes in research and diagnostics.
The Austrian start-up initially secured its place in the European final by the regional selection won in Vienna, that of EIT Health Austria at the AustrianStartups Stammtisch organized and as part of the FFG financed project HealthGateway.Austria was organized.

The other main prize went on Custom SurgicalA German start-up company that won in the “Healthtech” category. Both winners receive cash prizes and access to a number of benefits from leading industrial partners.
Catapult that was launched by Eit Health and by Cap Digital, Medical Valley and Biorn is operated as a platform that has brought new perspectives to the European health sector. As part of the program, start-ups receive targeted support for the further development of their business models and can increase their maturity and visibility through Europe-wide presence.
