Nutritional medicine plays a central role in prevention and treatment of numerous nutritional civilization diseases-including obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases as well as intestinal, liver and skeletal diseases. Many of these sufferings can be avoided or their consequences can be reduced when it is set to healthy nutrition and lifestyle interventions in a timely manner. Despite the enormous impact, nutritional medical competence in the medical profession is not yet sufficiently anchored, let alone in training.
The team of the Institute of Nutritional Medicine (ÖAIE) is committed to the high -quality training of doctors: inside and evaluated and adapted the training according to their needs. “The ÖÄK diploma for nutritional medicine is a sound training that has already successfully completed more than 2400 doctors. The aim is to promote modern, prevention-oriented medicine through knowledge transfer that arrives in the patient and introduces sustainable lifestyle changes-according to the founder of the Institute Prof. Widhalm.

The Institute for Nutritional Medicine (ÖAIE), as a partner of the Austrian Medical Association (ÖÄK) and the Academy of Doctors, is an independent institution on nutritional training and further education on a scientific basis. The tasks and goals primarily consist in the postgraduate training of doctors: inside too Nutritionist: inside.
Training content
The “ÖäK diploma for nutritional medicine” is an interesting, varied and practice-oriented training especially for medical professionals: inside. The aim of this training is to mediate and deepen knowledge about the basics of nutritional diagnostics and therapy. Above all, the primary topics are nutritional diseases, their prevention and therapy through nutritional procedures. On the one hand, the seminar topics include the basis such as food studies, nutritional physiology and enteral nutrition. However, the lecturers also deal with nutrition in specific diseases and disorders such as fat metabolism disorders, diabetes, osteoporosis and allergies and discuss practical topics. Current topics such as alternative nutritional forms and popular diets, probiotics and functional food as well as various eating disorders are also discussed evidence -based. “The content of our training is adapted to the latest scientific knowledge with every cycle and we are continuously working to adapt our training to current and future requirements,” said the Vice President of the Institute Dr. Helk.
A success story
So far, over 2400 doctors have successfully completed the diploma in Austria and implemented the extensive expertise learned in our training very successfully in practice.
The training approved by the ÖAK (DFP) includes about 90 hours.
The next training cycle begins in September 2025.
